What's the difference between...

CAT 3208 Low boost

Come on you guys, I know there is a bunch of you guys that pull every day with you Cummins power and was just wondering what for mileage you all got out of your trucks??

I've been pulling with my 06 for a few weeks now and have 8,000 miles on and I understand that it is yet to be broken in yet, but I have only been able to get around 7-7. 5 pulling grossing around 25,000 lbs. How can I get better??

I have a doctor performance module on it and straight exhaust.

I run it featherfoot most of the time to get better fuel econmy but seems not to help.

Seems like the newer they get the less mileage they get. My other trucks do a little better.

Just trying to keep a few extra bucks off this hotshot bizness, any help sure would help this brokedown wallet!!!!!

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Speed and high rpm is the mileage killer, at what speed do you tow?

One other thing I do is make sure my tires are inflated properly, I actually run the front tires @ 80 psi when I'm towing or running without a load.

I pull a little more wieght. I get 10MPG. I have goten as low as 7 MPG with a stong head wind going 65MPH. I have noticed with different trailers that are taller and wider it will get more wind resistance. That makes a differance. Plus, I go 65 up and down hill.

I should check my tire pressure.

I generally run between 60 and 65 putting my R's just over 2000.

Been thinking for awhile now about putting gear splitter that will give me one more gear higher than what it has. That should help a little on the return trip when your empty. Coming home I usally set the cruise on 62 and that is right on 2000 R's.

Has anybody tried a gear splitter? How do you like it???

I hate 4:10 gears. My 01 Dodge has 3:55 and I love them

i can get about 18-20 mpg pulling my loaded race trailer ~5000 pounds plus 1k in the bed.

Yea but your is a little older and they do better than the newer ones (No Offense) I think my 03 did better than this 06.

I think they are getting too many wires on them is what I think!!!!

I just pulled a load of furniture to Florida came back empty, Iwas getting 14. 5 running 70mph with three people in the truck hand calculated. I was getting 15. 8 on the way back with three in the truck and the trailer empty. I have 5800 miles on the truck right now, my 04' didn't really loosen up untill it had about 35000 miles on it. I'm running with 285/17 tires with 60 lbs and 3:73 rearend. With no trailer 17. 8 - 18. 2 hgwy, 15. 8 backroads and I am guilty of having lead foot! I would like to kill the cat and change the exhaust to 4" duals like I had on my 04' and see the difference. I am running with a cold air intake setup. Ken

Man that is more like it there now!!! ;)

What kind of trailer was that and how heavy??

Automatic or stick?? 2x4 or 4x4??

I thought about just changing the rear in it to 3:73 or even the 3:55 but sometimes I need a lil lower and the 3:55 may just a lil much but then again if you need it I have lo range to go for yet too.

Jrissler, are you running a stick or an automatic  and what year truck to you have. Transmission type makes a big difference towing. My truck is probably older than yours, see my signature for mods and setup. I get 15. 5 mph at 23,000lbs at 65 mph. With a 7,000 lb car trailer at 65 mph I will get 18. 3 mpg.

I think the biggest problem people have is speed and how they have their truck set up and style of driving.

Empty I get right at 23 mpg if I goes easy and keep to the speed limit.

I running a 6 spd. and it is an '06 4 door dually.

Yea I run it about as easy as your going to. I really feather foot it and just ease out on the take offs.

Man that ain't bad for your 01 there. I have 01 also and 6 spd. but don't think that it would do that good.

When I was picking my mods, I did allot of reading and research before I bought anything to see what I could expect for performance. My goal was reliability without any loss in economey. The two biggest gainers for me was the 275's and the EZ. Between those two and the 285 tire size I managed to pick up a solid 2 mpg. The absolute worst mpg I have ever gotten was 13. 5 mpg with my 8 x 16 cargo trailer and being in a big hurry to get home cruising between 75 and 80.
