I put about 1,000 miles on my truck pulling my race car in an enclosed trailer over the last weekend. Prolly about 9,000 pounds total. According to the overhead (did not do manual calculations) I got just under 13 MPG. Does that sound right? Two other rigs I was running with, a Ford Powerstoke and a chevy Duromax, pulling comparable trailers were at 11. 9 MPG indicated.

Jack

I pull an enclosed trailer that weighs about 20K with my 04 Dually... . I get around 12 to 12. 5 and feel good about that... . the truck has 207K miles and has never seen a tank full of fuel empty... Its a 6 speed with the 4:10 rear axle... . my 05 empty does around 17...

Hope this helps...

Jack,

I just returned from a trip pulling my 5th wheel see sig 3600 miles. My mpg had calc was 10. 4. I'm happy with this My truck only has 4500 miles on it now and everyone says the mpg should get better as you put more miles on it. Around town I get 12,4-13mpg city and highway avg.

Hope this helps

I averaged around 13. 5 mpg on a recent trip from Michigan to N. Carolina and back. I am quite pleased, since my 99 Dodge gasser averaged between 7-8 pulling the same trailer.

I find the overhead reads high, so I would guess you are somewhere between 11. 5 and 13 mpg if you were to do the calculation by hand.

I'm happy with the mileage given the fact I've only got 6,000 miles on truck. Overall, it used less fuel than the Chev and Ford I was running with. We were pushing pretty hard as well. Thank you for your responses.

By the way, paid the most I've ever paid for fuel. $3. 39 in San Diego area.

I question the credibility of hand calculations on my truck (or others?). In order to "top off" my fuel tank it seems to take five minutes to get the last couple of gallons in.

Put Spooled-up's vent mod on your truck and fill-ups will go MUCH faster and more accurate. You can quickly fill the tank to where fuel (not foam) is right up to the cap.

David is a member here and nearly eveyone who has installed it says his vent kit is their #1 favorite mod. Put my name on that list.

Best and Worst

The best that I get pulling. 15mpg are on State highways doing 55mph. The worst was 9. 5 while going 75mph against a strong head wind in Kansas. (I know that the speed limit is only 70 tops in Kansas)
