Just got back from a long weekend trip with the 9000 lb travel trailer in tow. Mileage was 9mpg calculated and the overhead said 11mpg. I don't understand how my 2007 truck can get so much worse than my 95 did(12mpg with same trailer). This truck has much more power and better gears.

Also had a weird problem with the exhaust brake, it seemed like it was turning off and then back on some of the down-hills. Does it reduce braking capacity if back pressure gets to high?

All the smog junk eats away at your fuel mileage. I don't know where you traveled, but, I got an average of 9. 4 traveling from SW Mo. to Yellow Stone and back, 3300 miles round trip pulling 16K.

As far as the exhaust brake, if you are running with the cruise on, it will dis-engage when the speed is reduced to what it is set at.

I have noticed the exhaust brake will turn off when I hit a bump in the road or the road is wet and slippery. Especially on off ramps that are real bumpy the exhaust brake will turn off until I hit smoother pavement.

just got back from a 3 month trip around the country. 10442 miles and I got 11. 1 per gal hand cal. for the trip last 2 trips which were about 7000 mi. or so i got 10. 5. now have 40221 on the truck. towing about 9-9500 lb. travel trailer. probably won't get any better, but love the truck. had a 96 but this truck has twice the hp. and tq. as it did so yooou gotta pay to play.

You didn't mention the mileage on the truck. Is it broke in yet? If you

don't have 20,000 mi on it I wouldn't panic yet. Syn oil will also delay

the brake in. You have to expect to pay a little extra for that smooth

quite power.

All of you folks with 6. 7L if you don't have a programmer, the Smarty I added has done the best for me on increasing fuel mileage. :-laf

You can start looking for better milage at around 60. 000 miles if you drive it . If you baby it it will take longer! I worked my and the fuel milage started to inproved around 48. 000 and has got better as it get more milage on it . All so I have went from 70 to 63 miles per hr. I run with 22. 900+ and coming from IN to TX I got 13. 7.

Extra Hp takes extra fuel, it's a matter of physics.

I pull a 14,000lb tall 5th wheel GCW of a little over 22,000lbs and at 65 MPH I get 8. 5 MPG to mostly 9. 5 MPG depending on hills and expecially wind conditions.

Empty I get a solid 17. 3 on every tank of combined 20% city and 80% highway at 65 MPH.
