My new 2001 Ram 2500 long bed is great! However after nearly 2500 miles, the best mileage I've been able to achieve is 14 mpg. The dealer tells me this is within acceptable limits. What can I do to improve the mileage???

<font color=blue>What gear ratio do you have? What transmission? Your milage should increase once you break in the engine (10,000 to 15,000) miles or so. I have 5500 miles on my truck with 4. 10 ratio, Auto and I average 16. 5 to 17. 5 mpg. Fine by me. Should also mention I have a heavy right foot #ad

The first 3000 miles the computer was showing 14. 7 mpg.

At 6000 miles computer was showing 15. 6 mpg.

I added a K&N Stock replacement at 6,000.

Today at 9,000 the computer is showing 17. 1 mpg.

Actual computations are about . 4 mpg higher.

There have been 4 trailer hauling trips between all those miles.

More miles I add, the higher the average is going up. I've been told it takes a good 50,000 miles just to get it loosened up.

No fuel additives. Everything stock.

Just filled up today 7/21 after running 348. 8 miles I had to squeeze in 20. 1 gallons to get the pump to stop on an even amount.

Equals 17. 35 mpg. 20 miles of the 348. 8 were at 70-75 mph. Rest was 55 mph or less town traffic. Not bad for a heavy truck.
