just returned from our vacation to Yellowstone and was wondering about our fuel mileage. got 10 to 10. 5 towing. we tow about 7000lb tt. 2002,3500, 4x4, 5spd, 410 gears, drivin about 65 constant. (that was hills and flat land combined) STOCKED.

Well get ready to be bombarded with 17 to 26 mpg while pulling a sled but that is about what I get pulling a 5th wheel that weighs about 12,500. I have auto trans and the 3:55 rear gears in a 99 3500, quad. bg

Your milage looks a little under what you should see on the flats. Things that reduce milage are mountains, using the cruise control, head winds, side winds, getting up to temperatures in the mornings. Speed has the largest effect on milage. Have you checked your indicated speed/speedometer?

See the Excel spreadsheet for calculated mileage for your rig:

I think the mileage you are getting is pretty normal, especially if you don't have much mileage on the truck yet. After you get over the 10-15,000 mark it'll start coming up.

Hey, I was in Yellowstone on 9/3-9/6. I didn't have a trailer, just gear in the back.

I was averaging about 275 miles a day in the parks, Yellowstone and Tetons, and I averaged 19mpg. But again, I had no load compared to you.

Beautiful parks aren't they?

I drove from San Diego to Forks Washington got 16 mpg both directions. My mileage was hand calc. Air temps triple digits in the desert regions (108 even at Shasta). I pulled into a truck scale and weighed in at 11550 pounds. I was pulling my lil 5th wheel. My trip meter reads a tad high. Left San Diego on a Friday night and pulled into Olympia WA around 9AM on Sunday.
