Anyone know where I can get the old Smokey fuel pin or eqivalent?Bully Dog say's they now sell them but when I e-mailed them I get no response so thought I would ask around ,also if anyone is running one now on their truck can you tell me if they add as much power as they say?Suppose to be 40 rwhp.

Thank's Joe

I'm running one and it really helps. Try PMing Old Smoky or call Dyno Mite Diesel Performance in Washington, that's where he works.

A fuel pin is the aneroid cone that your guide pin runs up and down that governs the amount of fuel you get vs. boost pressure.

Clear as mud?

Pull the four bolts on top of the pump, gently swing it towards the firewall and pull out the little dealy that is connected to the black diaphram you see, that is the fuel pin.

Philip,

DD hasnt made snything for 1st Gens for a couple years now, except an occasional set of DD3 injectors.

CB is right about the aneroid pin. It's in there with the AFC spring, starwheel, etc, etc. And, be sure to read CB's thread about not breaking wind around the pot metal hose going from the intake to the AFC housing; stuff may break.

DD hasn't made them for a while. But there are some laying around on peoples garage shelfs. So if someone offers to sell you one. Stay away from them. They are not worth the cost.

Toss this out as another option, PDR offers them as well. Got one of theirs in mine. Seat of the pants, yeah, it helps, and I have not turned my pump up yet.

So,the general concensus is to not even bother with one?I was hoping for the one easy hp upgrade and really start playing with the local diesel guy's. Kinda surprised though at the response's I alway's thought bully dog sold some pretty good products.

Joe

No! As previously stated, the old smokey pin will add hp and tweak your power band. It's another nice HP gain without touching the fuel screw (kinda like sanding the washer or tightening the throttle linkeage?).

GET ONE!!! :)

Below is a quote from the DTR forum about the performance of Smokey's fuel pin. His signature says he also has PODs, hybrid turbo and turned up pump.

Though it appropriate to post here.

Jay

I ran pre and post dyno runs less than five minutes apart, only changing the pin. 24 hp and 51 ft. lbs increase at the rear wheels. I didn't notice a any significant egt increase at cruise speeds, but it climbs a bit faster at WOT. A good mod for the $$ and ease of installation

BTW, my stock fuel pin was already rotated to the deepest setting, and I shaved the washer to about . 090"(about the same as the one that came with the new pin).
