I've got a 95 with the nv4500 and I have already moved my fuel plate as far forward as I can. I of course caught the power bug and would like more. I am looking at getting a new fuel plate. I know that I can put a #5 in but have heard some say they have trouble with the clutch slipping afterwards. So instead of a plate can I turn the pump up any? If so how much? I do have the K&N Drop-in and 5" exhaust(still the stock down pipe though). Do I go with the #5 worry about my clutch later, get a #6, turn the pump up, or a combination of?

Also I did not see you mention gauges! If you don't have them, you need to get some, Boost and Pyrometer at least. :-laf

I would go with a #5, crank the pump timing up to 15. 5 or 16*. While your in there, throw a set of 3K GSK springs in too.

I wouldn't go with a #10 in your truck. As roosp said, get guages too.

After doing the above, the powerbug will have bitten you but good.

What is the Difference between 3k and 4k GSK springs? The RPM? ROOSP you mentioned being lite footed when hauling is that in reference to the clutch?

Hey brodge,
diff between the two is 1000 rpm. 3k, goes to about 3200, 4k pushes beyond 4200. in these engines, in my opinion, going to 32-3500 is enough.

i think what roosp meant is in general. but while towing, with a 10 plate in your setup, you'll burn up the clutch mighty fast. You'll be sending tons of fuel at the thing and it'll just wear out. I personally don't heed well to "be soft on the clutch". I mean, i have this power, limited time to get to b from a, I go. . I go fast :D

Also, didn't notice from your post or bio that you have taken care of the KDP yet. That would be a first to do or you end up with a huge repair bill. Search for KDP jig or KDP fix, or kdp tab here and you'll find what you need.
So now I think you should do:
a) kdb tab
b) #5 plate forward
c) 3kgsk
d) 16* timing

Then, get ready... yo'll go fast and want to go faster. Depends on how deep your pockets are. Look at my bio. I can't go much further at the moment 'cause it gets real expensive and quick... (e. g. you go from 300 upgrades to 1300. 00 )

good luck

3k springs will allow your pump to fuel to almost if not over 3000rpm, 4k will go to 4,000, 4k springs need to have the 60lb. springs installed so you dont float the valves. imo, the 3k kit will suit you just fine. that alone is one of the best mods to do the p pumps.

I tend to agree with arthr31 on the mods, and I also see a new clutch for your truck in the near future with those mods :-laf

The KDP (Killer Dowel Pin) is what falls in the gears. You need to do the preventive fix so that it won't do that.
