I'm looking for the rubber gromet that goes into the fuel preheater where the line comes in from the tank. Any ideas? Thanks

its the gromet where the line from the tank ataches to the prefilter/heater. It comes in from the top side Thanks

I know what one you're talking about! That is a part that doesn't exist in either Dodge's or Cummins' parts list! That square cut O-ring is mentioned in the last TDR magazine Issue (which I can't seem to find at the moment but it's near the beginning). Can someone with their magazine handy chime in?

Vaughn,

It does exhist. I just replaced mine this summer. As a matter of fact my response is in the last TDR just as you said with the grommet number. MM800, get in the last TDR under 12 valve and you'll see the part number. Order from your local cummins shop, not the dodge dealer. It'll be a fraction of the cost if you get it from the big truck dealers. As a matter of fact, it was given to me by someone else who was having the same problems as I was at the same time.

It is part # 3923194 DO NOT do what I did and ask for overnight shpping. It was overnighted from the manufacturer, then to the warehouse, then to me. I was stuck for $60 in shipping for a $4 part that weighs less than an ounce and the "overnight" took 6 days. No apology from the Ft. Worth Cummins shop either.

If you need the truck running, get a brass barbed fitting from a hardware store (the threads are a common size) and run a rubber hose from the hardline on the firewall to the barbed fitting bypassing the hardline that goes into the prefilter.

I'm glad Cummins has it now. 4 years ago they didn't at least what the Cummins NW guys in Pendleton and Yakima could find. I made numerous calls with my CPL and serial No, had them fax me blow-up diagrams of the fuel system pulled up from QuickServe, etc. etc. . . they had great detailed diagrams, but mysteriously no O-ring pictured at all. They took a stab at it a couple times and sent me O rings but they weren't even close. There were several posts in the past of guys having the same lack of success finding the same thing.

It doesn't show up in Quickserve. It is shown on the blowup picture of the fuel line itself, and apparantly only Cummins parts places have that picture.

I don't know why guys sweat the fuel heater. I scrap it on all of my trucks and just run a inline fuel filter to take out the rocks and the rabbits. Most equipment has no fuel heater. It doesn't help prevent gelling anyways.

About a year or so after I got my 1998, I got a recall.

The heater wasnt hooked to the power at the factory.

Guess I shouldnt have went in for that one. :-laf

It has long since fried, so I just unscrewed it and put the bowl back on.

Maybe we should start a thread or poll on who has removed their pre-heater, then people that have problems with it would have more information about fixing them or removing them.
