12 valve screeching

Archived 2006 Died on road, won't start

Jan 2012 I lost the VP44 and Fass pump. I replaced the same with a rebuilt VP 44 and warranty Fass pump. Today and 5000 mile later i could hardly start the 2002 dodge. It acted as if the truck was in minus 20 and took three tries to start. Ran fine all day. Let the truck sit for about 3 hrs and notice i had zero press to the VP 44 when trying to start. Started on fourth try. Normal pump pressure is running about 14psi, 16 at idle. Bad new Fass pump or what? Any ideas would help. Thanks Truck has about 300,000 miles

There will be no pressure at cranking, and a couple seconds after startup to reach full pressure.

I would check to see if you have a loose connection somewhere that is letting air in/the system bleed down.

There are also PCM failures which fail to actuate the fuel pump. Is you FASS driven off a relay from the original fuel pump circuit? I've seen several that failed to actuate the circuit, or took a while. There's a 98 in my yard right now, you can turn on the key, wait about 5 seconds, then the wait to start light comes on and the pump kicks on. Starts fine if you wait. Also had an '01 from a neighbor, it completely quit, and would just quit running down the highway. Fuel guage gave it away. It finally quit altogether. I think the old pumps of the past have overloaded the ground interrupt in the ECM and caused it to fail, JMO.

You said it cranks like - 20 degrees, What is the cranking speed? I'd start with battery tests and check all cables and connections. Computers like good clean 12 volts.
