It's been running about 20 PSI so I pulled the O. F. spring and tweaked it a little.

It's staying at 20 PSI.

Do I need a new lift pump?

Eric

PS 1998 12 valve, 5 speed.

Pinch the rubber return line briefly while watching the gauge, if it spikes quickly its the overflow. If it doesnt spike (40+psi) quickly or not at all its the lift pump.

There is a fuel strainer also, that could be dirty.

I bough my lift pump from the Case-IH dealer. Less than $100, including the 2 gaskets. You do need to change out one of the fittings.

This is the exact same Carter pump in a Case box. You will need to swap one of the fittings from your old pump to the new pump this will be self explanatory when you hold the pumps side by side.

Thanks guys. Filter has a few miles on it, but I dont have a big drop in pressure across it.

I'm going to pinch the hose tomorrow and see what happens.

I pinched the return line and it quickly rose to over 40 PSI.

Guess stretching the spring in the overflow valve dont always do it. Sometimes it just needs replacing.
