I bought one of those kits on ebay a couple of weeks ago that has the idiot light come on to let you know if you have low fuel pressure. Last night heading home, in 4th gear, around 50mph, and 1400rpm the light was coming on but not ALL the way. I have the sensor installed on the injection pump side of the filter. Its supposed to come on at 3-4 psi. I havent put a gauge on it yet. I had a new lift and injection pump about 20k miles ago. Any ideas, is this normal? I'll be purchasing a mechanical test gauge shortly to see what I have. Any input is VERY much appreciated.

There are a dozen causes for low fuel pressure, but it's a waste of time speculating until it's known for sure what the *real* fuel pressure is. Get that mechanical test gauge first and use it.



But if in the mean time if you want to learn more about low fuel pressure, just do a search here on the forum and you'll have hours of material to read.

As with all electric gauges, I run each gauge ground wire to as close to it's sender, as possible. I do this for every gauge. You may also have to add another ground wire from sender to frame, engine or battery. I had a transmission temp gauge show a different reading when I turned the lights on, I found a bad ground for the bulb and it was taking a ground path thru the sender, thus changing the reading when the lights were turned on. At first look you think the sender and light are seperate, your right, but the bulb case was not insulated and when the wire bulb ground broke ... the light still worked. In short grounds are important and cause more problems.
