98.5 fp guage:
just did my 98. 5 24V with auto meter guages:
For FP guage:
1. Sender install
- pulled the for-most test port from the top of the filter
- inserted 90 needle valve and added 3/8 barb
- built home brew simple bracket for holding the sender
- installed sender in bracket and mounted bracket to existing bolt on the steering booster (added another 3/8 barb on the back of the sender)
- used about 12" of hose (in a U shape) plus a couple hose clamps to connect the barbs.
2. Guages
- using triple a pillar from Genos
- paint guage mount to match interior color
- remove dash bezel (this will make sense later... )
- removed old a pillar (carefully pull down only) and did surgery so that new cover would sit flush on original piece (had to cut away much of the tweeter mount
- expoxied new triple cover to orig cover and used dremel to trim away excess and to have plenty of clearance (also to reduce thickness so that original look would be maintained)
- created power wiring and wired to each guage hole (with some excess so that guages could be pulled without removing all. Needed to have a switched power wire for FP and pyro as well as another that was going to power the lights (to be connected to the oe dimmer in the headlight switch). Connected all lighting grounds to one wire and all sending unit grounds to another .
- tie wrap wires together behind a pillar to make sure that you have enough relief to pull guages if necessary.
- Install A-Pillar and insert guages
-Fished most all wiring (and boost tube) down thru access panel for the fuse block. Fish lighting power down and thru access to the headlight switch.
- turn on lights and probe with a voltmeter to find the dimmer (this be the only one voltage varying with the turn of the dimmer). connect guage lighting power to this one...
- install light switch and bezel
- fish all wiring down near steering column and thru firewall grommet and connect to sender(s).
- add split loom everywhere possible to aviod chafing...
Sounds like a lot but its a piece of cake if you give it some time... Overall install came out great, if you need some pix let me know...
Rgds,
