I used one of the 1/8" NPT ports on the top of my filter housing (98. 5 truck) and ran a straight braided line through the firewall up the A-pillar into a Isspro mechanical gauge. When I first installed it - no problems, just low pressure from a bad lift pump :( . Now after running it for a couple months it started fluttering like crazy a few days ago. It wasnt so bad when it started, but now its jumping from 8 to 17 lbs so fast Im afraid its going to lift-off. The buzzing noise is so irritating I blast the radio to cover it up!!! What do I need to do to keep it from fluttering? Is it my guage?

It could be Air in the line , Have you tried to remove the air by opening the hose at the top (at gauge) to let the air out ? Or you may need to put a snubber (restriction ) in the line , like a shut off valve , inlet fitting closed up weld and drilled to 2/32 or so this will in most case stop flutter of indicator . Also a loop sometimes works. A braided line looks good to some folks but is in most cases not needed as the PSI is only about tops 16 psi Regular fuel line for diesel works fine. Check the "Isolator" between the guage & fuel source. My brothers isolator was failing & it was making noise as well. With the braided line you probably won't be able to see if the fuel is getting past but maybe you could un hook it from the guage & you could smell it?

Good luck.

Does it sound like your buzzing noise is coming from the gauge or under the hood ?

I used to have a SS braided line before I removed my isolator. If it was touching anything metal under the hood it would buzz like crazy, easily loud enough for me to hear it over the motor and radio. So, I used rubber fuel line hose from Auto Zone and split it down one side covered the SS braided line under the hood. It certainly didn't look as cool but it stopped that buzzing.

But then I removed the isolator because it was faulty and ran diesel all the way to the gauge. Now I have a much quieter buzz coming from the gauge itself. It started to do it only under hard acceleration now it does all the time. So I am going to try a needle valve to take care of that buzz ( hopefully ).

I have the exact same problem, what i do to fix is just bleed the line and then it shuts up. When i let the truck sit for 3 or more days the gauge gets angry and flutters, i'm gonna put a snubber in and see if that fixes it for good.

DEFINATELY IRRITATING!

I have not tried bleeding the lines yet, but I will try that tommorrow. The buzzing sound is definately from the gauge, the buzz is from the needle bouncing so fast. When I say fast I mean from 9 to 17 lbs several times a second!!!!! I do not have an isolator between the filter housing and gauge - I have fuel ran straight to the gauge. By a needle valve, what do you mean? Went to napa to look for one and the guy tried to tell me that it wouldnt work.

Go to ( Products and Accessories/ Engine and Transmission ). In my thread " FP Gauge Buzzing ", Rock-n-Rammer posted a pic of the needle valve with a Grainger part number.
