I reciently Installed a Fuel Pressure Gauge on my 02 and am trying to figure out if it is working right or if it was worth getting. On start up it jumps to 12 psi then after driving it drops to 5 psi. When driving around town it is anywhere from 1-2 psi and 0 at WOT. I spoke with a man at the local diesel shop and he claims the vp44 is using all the pressure so that is why it is not reading when you are under power. Is this true? If i do have a lift pump problem will the vulcan big line kit help this?

thanks

joe

2002 Extended cab, short bed, 2500, 5 speed, Strait pipe, BHAF, Fuel Pressure, Exhaust temp, Boost, no silencer ring.

fuel gauge

My take, Do not drive under 10 psi, Worth it? Yes. After the sixth pump I got a FASS, should have done it right away... Solid 18psi at idle or WOT

(180k on my 02)

uh o

Yep what those guys said!!!!!!!! get a new LP or that VP44 will rear its ugly head and you will reap the whirl wind... ... . My FASS is 17 idle, 15 WOT... ... Jeremy

Just ignore what that person told you, as it does not make any sence. And yes, the Vulcan big line kit is really good.

Just ignore what that person told you, as it does not make any sence..... what are you talking about ILIANBG... . if it doesnt make sence to you i will explain it for you, basically he needs to correct the fuel pressure issue, get a new LP or FASS such as the rest of the members have chimed in and said they have had luck with..... as for me saying "get a new LP or that VP44 will rear its ugly head and you will reap the whirl wind" i too just as AJ on here have changed my LP and another friends pump several times... ... basicaly when people put the fear factor limit on a situation they take information more seriously... . Just trying to save this man some trouble in doing the VP44 shuffle..... PM me ILIANBG if you have any issues..... Jeremy

Lift pump?

So if i need a new lift pump where is the best place/price? Should i just get a new lift pump and a vulcan kit to keep the cost down or go with the FASS? How much is the Fass by the way?

thanks

joe

Joe you gotta do some reading Take a look at the 70. 00 l;ift pump thread maybe you can still get one of those 64. 00 pumps. Where are you located?

Hey Joe,

if you plan on keeping it for awhile, get a fass or equiv. I have the fass 150g w/o the filters and I think you can get that for $300 or so. Well worth it as i have 19 at idle and 14 WOT with the comp on 5x5. I had low pressure with a replaced lift pump before the fass and I'm glad I changed it right this time. Good luck :)

Hey Cowboy... I think Ilianbg was referring to ignoring the diesel mechanic JMcKee got the info from and not you. Im not trying to be a smart arse just dont want anyone with hard feelings here. When we chat over the internet its hard to understand what a person really means.

COWBOYDUALLY, thank god we are not in person, or I could have been already hit. Anyway, I was not suggesting not to replace the LP, or get a FASS. My appology goes to JMcKee. I just said my opinion on the Vulcan kit, THAT IS IT. I do think his LP is not operating within specs.

JMcKee, Change out that lift pump now!! Never Ever Let the FP go under 6PSI!!, or you will kill the VP44! I'd get one off the FASS pumps if I had (or when) I do it again. My reasoning is thus: New stock lift pump from NAPA, $170. 00, replaced it once under warranty from NAPA. If it goes again I get to pay for it's replacement. That would be $340. 00 for NAPA lift pumps. I think that when this NAPA pump starts to go I'm going to go for the FASS Pump 2 (pump only) for $390. 00 or a full FASS with filters.

Not to mention RASP! :-laf Moose00

Something recently just hit the streets - My order is in and can't wait to rid myself of the junk DC/Carter/Cummins LP dilemma. http://www.glacierdieselpower.com/product.asp?pf_id=3929852

Spoke with Rich - he is a great guy w/great customer service values. He will help tailor a system to fit your needs. He did for me and stayed within advertised price!!! The call is not expensive . . .

To answer your question, YES, YES, YES!!! Change the lift pump now or buy a VP soon. I just got a lift pump from the local Freightliner for my son's truck Monday for $149. 00, they had 4 in stock.

oh

ok sorry, no harm done, Joe just PMed me and i gave him the lowdown on the FASS. hopefully hes set up now, has anyone heard from him yet?..... jeremy

It is obvious from all the posts on this site that the stock LP is problamatic, but not everyone exprience is the same. I ran my original LP 117,000 miles. I did not have a gauge and only became alarmed when it started missing under acceleration. I have since installed a gauge and run 13 at idle, 10-11 under load. I have 54,000 on this pump.
