Fuel Pressure Gauge Question

I drive a 2004. 5, the one with the weak fuel transfer pump. Have 80,000 mi so decided I need a guage so bought BD LED Low Fuel Pressure Indicator from Geno's. It is suppose to light when the fuel pressure drops to 5 psi. After installing it flickered on and off whenever traveling above an idle. I installed a new 'original equipment pump', from Geno's, thinking the pump was getting weak. The indicator flickers almost as much with the new pump. Anyone else experienced this?



Does the pressure normally vary this much? Do I have a bad pressure indicator?

you pump is in the tank... . if its an 04. 5... . it could be just fine

so it flickers under WOT? where did you install the sender at?

For the intake pump I thought 11psi was normal at idle and 7-9 running. . . assuming stock fueling.

04. 5 was the last year before the intank pump came out. FYI, with my intank pump 8. 5 at idle and I can pull it down to 4 psi with the Tst on 3/2 wot. Stock I can pull it down to about 5 with a good load.

On my 04. 5 the pump was under the hood. Until it failed at 50,000 miles that is. The dealer put the new one in the tank and didn't even charge me a deductable.



For what it's worth, my fuel pressure on my gauge is normally right around 10 psi at idle or holding a steady speed. When I am on the throttle I have gotten it down to maybe 6 or 7, but never as low as 5.



I don't know what is wrong with you light, or if that is the problem, but good luck.

The problem you are experiancing is due to the tank mounted pump. They are notorious for low fuel pressure at the filter upstream. We have a note on our page for the same BD Low FP LED kit that mentions this. We don't reccomend the BD kit unless you have removed the tank pump for an aftermarket fuel pump.

Diesel Manor. I don't have tank mounted pump. Mine is mounted on the fuel filter cannister, as I've replaced the original with a new one, just like the original.

Where's the LED sensor located? I'm assuming you've tried replacing the fuel filter? That is strange. You might want to test your FP at the schrader. We sell a test gauge for this as well as some other sponsors here. I'm wondering if the FP is really that low, or just the BD pressure transducer (sensor) is bad.

Mine did the exact same thing on my '05. It's also leaking out of the fitting / sensor connection. I just figured that the CP3 killed it, and it was my fault for not putting a snubber or needle valve in line.
