i called Diesel injection of pittsburgh about getting fp gauge . They told me i didn't need it. not to worry. If the lift pump would go i would notice a diffrence in performance. Is this true? reason i ask is i read some guys on here had bad lift pumps and didn't no it. im still stock . mabe EZ in my future. and the scarry part is that they said they never done one on a truck like mine. is there any body else close to the pittsburgh PA. area? that has the EXPERIENCE? And do they make a dual fp gauge like the egt and boost in electric?

thanks for any replies EdOo.

Ed,

Get a fuel pressure gauge. It's a must have - even if you're stock. It's nice to know what's going on, and you'll have a better chance heading off a problem with gauges than without.

If this is really what they believe, I'd think twice about having them work on my truck... :(

Ed,

Can't imagine who would tell you that at Diesel Injection. Bruce, Gary and Pete know Cummins. When it comes to Dodges they mostly deal with the mechanical trucks, they don't mess around with the ISB too much. They do make the big trucks go fast.

Give Andy or Doug a call at Advanced Diesel Technology, they are in Mt. Pleasant, just off the Turnpike at New Stanton. They take care of their customers, they treat your truck like it is their truck (that's a good thing :D ).

It was GARY at diesel injections who spoke to. I talked to Andy a little while ago at advanced diesel . sounds like a good guy suppose to meet with him next week end. he told me fp gauge was good idea. also sad he will hook up EZ to my truck and let me try it out. sounds like they know more about the trucks . so thank you everybody for your help.

THANKS ED:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

SPA has just released a dual "pressure-pressure" guage that would be sweet, but there are two issues - 1) already on back-order, vendors can't promise when I'd have one in hand 2) Cost over 300 clams.

Someone told me about Dakota Digital, and I bought from them.

http://www.dakotadigital.com/

Cons:

1) Not a "dual guage" - just one readout per dial

2) Came with just the guage and sending unit - I'll have to go find wires, switches, fuse, hose, and fittings. (Not a big deal, especially if you're having someone else do the install. )

3) Does not have the "external" alarm outputs that the SPA has.

Pros:

1) Looks to be high quality

2) Has adjustable alarm setpoints, similar to SPA

3) Also available in a rectangular version if you don't want classic round

4) For fuel pressure, you could monitor downstream of filter, then buy a second sender and wire a switch. This would allow you to set your alarms based on pressure downstream of filter, then switch over to "upstream" pressure whenever an alarm came in to diagnose whether it was a clogged filter or bad pump. This would only add $30 in parts.

5) Cost of gauge plus one sender <$100, gauge plus two senders still under $125

P. S. - I absolutely love my dual SPA; this post is not intended to be negative towards SPA, I'm just saying that those who are looking for a less expensive alternative should consider the Dakota Digital.
