Problems with 48re?

Talked to a guy at Geno's Garage and ordered my gauges. I wanted to order a fuel pressure gauge, but was told the new HPCR cummins didn't need one. I questioned him and he told me that the pre 02's needed a better lift pump to supply the injector pump so that it wouldn't over heat due to lack of fuel. He told me that the 03-04's injector pump would supply adequet fuel even if the lift pump died. Just curious as to why I read alot of fuel pressure problems with the HPCR cummins. I plan on having a edge juice as soon as it come out, or the tst. Just curious. Any takes on this?

Lee.

stock, the cp3 hpcr pump doesn't need any fuel pressure from a lift pump. [the dmax engines have the same pump and they have no llift pump and draw vacuum at the pump inlet]

however, it seems on our engines, when modded, fuel pressure is a good idea to monitor. .

Geno's Told me the same thing. I really like those guys, and feel that they give good advice. They are by FAR my favorite vendor. HOWEVER, I wanted a FP gauge, and I bought a FP gauge. It's MY truck, and if it makes me feel better to have the gauge, I'm gonna have it. Waste of money or not, I like it and am glad I bought it.

Just my . 02.

Geno's is correct about you not needing a fuel pressure gauge on the 03-04 trucks. As of yet we have not seen the problems with the 03-04 truck like we saw with the 02 and down trucks. Now keep in mind when you start bombing the 03-04 trucks this could create another problem. The stock fuel pressure on the 03-04 truck is around the 8psi range +/- a little. When running a power module or injectors the 8psi could become 0 or become negative vacuum very easily. So it never hurts to have the fuel pressure gauge to monitor what is going on as you begin to bomb your truck. Just my . 02

Where did you guys tap in for the gauge? They had a little hose for the pre 02's. They told me they didn't know how you would hook one up. Easy/Hard? Any info would greatly be appreciated. Thanks. Lee.

It's NOT a waste of time if you're gonna turn the power up. Anything over 400rwhp will require a pusher kit and/or monitoring fuel pressure.

Our kit comes with a fitting to replace the stock one at the pump, or for use with our pusher pump kit- comes with a fitting for that.

I used a banjo bolt supplied with the gauge kit and attached it to the line coming from the bottom of the fuel filter going to the HP pump. I read about 7-8 psi unless I am hard on the throttle for an extended run, then have seen it stay at 5. I have no power mods as of yet. A recent article said the pump is a 10psi unit, and I figure the drop I see as being due to the measurement being post filter. If one of the power gurus can either confirm this or set me straight, please do.
