I have a 2002 24 valve and i need to put a fuel pressure guage on it,for now i just want to put one under the hood on the VP44 does anyone know what kind i can use and what fitting it would take
Bad choice under the hood. Install one properly. You want to monitor this as you drive. I have seen too many that idle well but drop to zero under load (acceleration). Also, I have had two of mine with occassional 5-minute intermitants (low pressures) which would never have been caught if hidden under the hood.
Definitely install your gauge in the cab. I recommend a mechanical FP gauge with an isolator. I use a Di/Pricol guage and I love it. I haven't had a minute's trouble out of it.
If you don't have the funds for a full set of gauges, just get a FP gauge with a steering column mount or a universal mount that you can mount on the knee bolster or something.
You'll have a small line running from your gauge to the isolator, then you'll need to get a hose made up to run from the fuel side of the isolator to your injector pump.
There is a Schrader valve on the injector pump that you can remove with a valve stem remover, and then screw your hose from your isolator onto the test port. It is a -4 AN fitting.
You can get everything from David at Diesel Manor. He has great prices on gauges and can also sell you a nice stainless steel hose to run from your isolator to your pump. He can set up up with everything for around $180 by just glancing at prices. That's with a steering column mount and a stainless steel hose.
See my Reader's Rigs for pics of everything needed for the simplest FP gauge on a stock 2002 fuel system, Geno's hose hooks to the schraeder, sp?, valve on you injection pump. The only thing I added later was a needle valve at the end of the Geno's hose from Mcmaster-Carr. That was for piece of mind rather than the gauge acting funny.
