Hey guys,

Newbie here... ... ... ... I have a '99 QC,4x4,5spd and my dad has a 98. 5 QC, Auto.

I've been keeping an eye on the fuel pressure topics and wanted to ask a few questions.

#1... ... ... ... . What type of guage do most folks use on the Fuel Pressure?

#2... ... ... ... . Do the Geno's banjo fittings have a place for attaching the Fuel Pressure hose/guage?

#3... ... ... ... Any particular type of needle valve that is used inline with the gauge?

#4... ... ... ... . How many guys run the gauge into the cab with a remote sending unit type system and what remote system is the best?

I really love this new (to me) CTD and I know my dad is tickled with his also.

A side note... ... ... ... . both of us have 3. 54's, his auto/mine 5spd... ... ... I get about 18mpg and he gets a steady 14. Doesn't matter what he tows with it... ... ... . 14mpg... ... ... ... ... . he'd like to get better fuel mileage... ... ... ... . any thoughts??

Thanks

You can use a mechanical or electric gauge. A mechanical will require that you have a fuel line into the cab and either a needle valve or an isolator. With electric you just need the wire, but they tend to have more problems with sending units and poor readings. That's why I run a mechanical.

On your 99 I believe you have a 1/8" pipe fitting on top of you filter housing that will give you post filter PSI. If not you can get banjo's that are made with an 1/8" fitting in the end of them.

As far as the needle valve, any will work. You could even use a ball valve, but needle will be better. All you are doing is closing it almost all the way so if a leak in cab develops it will only be a small one. If it does leak you just shut the valve of until repairs are made.

As far as 14MPG, does it smoke a lot? No power? Need more info.

fuel press gauge ?

Dkothe! I chose a Isspro EV series mechanical gauge.

ordered gauge and braided steel line from wildcatdiesel.

mounted it in the cubby hole. No problems with set up. Oo. :D

Dad's '98.5

JFinke,

Dad's '98. 5 has 285's on it, automatic and TONS of power. I had a '96 2wd auto, 245's and his seemed to have more than twice the get up and go. It just FEELS strong, all the time. It feels like it even has more power than my '99 5spd,235's.

No smoke that I've seen. We pulled a trailer to and from the NW corner of CO elk hunting to OKLA and it didn't matter if we were in the mountains or the flat lands of KS... ... ... ... 14. 2-14. 6 mpg

I haven't looked it all over to see if it has a box on it either.

He just a week or so ago did the Mystery Switch thing to it to lock the converter and didn't say that he'd found any other wires etc.

Thanks

Deano

Is his speedo reading the right mileage? Are you doing the MPG with a calculator or off the overhead console? Mine reads about 1-1. 5MPG better than I really get. Another guy I know gets 2MPG better than his reads. If your dad's truck came stock with 245 tires and has 285's it would make almost 8% difference. Does he have a grill guard or missing wind dam below the bumper, a winch, canopy, etc. They can cost several or more MPG when combined. A friends truck has a big grill guard that bolts to the bumper and it cost him 2. 5MPG when he put it on and did the leveling kit. I lost about . 4MPG by doing the leveling kit alone. I also loose 2-2. 5MPG in winter due to more idling and winter diesel. My dad's 2wd auto gets about 3. 5MPG less than mine towing the same load but about 1MPG better empty. But he drives 15MPH slower than me empty.
