i did a search, could'nt find anthing. installed new autometer mechanical fuel pressure guage yesterday and it makes a "pulsating" or "vibration" noise, it's definitly rpm related more rpm faster the pulsating. i spent over an hour today trying to fix it thinking it was the fuel line rubbing on something so i re-routed it and made sure it's not touching anything and it's all tie wrapped. i can feel it pusating from the guage to the injection pump by feeling the line.

anyone else with this guage have a problem like this? it's way too noisy for me. i'm also curios if my inj pump is supposed to pulsate that bad.

thanx for any info. . LATER

Summit..... sounds like you need an isolator or "snubber". Do a search for fuel pressure gauge isolator. I think you'll find the answer in one of the many threads that come up. Sorry I don't know more about it.

Summit, I'm assuming you connected your gauge at the injection pump. The working of the VP44 create hydraulic harmonics in the fuel and that is what you are hearing.

You might try connecting it at the bottom of your fuel canister, where the rubber line between there and the injection pump may quell the pulsations. I have not tried that on mine though.

did the search, only 2 posts, read them both. seems to me a isolator is only for those who dont want fuel line in thier cab, my needle isn't pulsating, it holds steady, it's the pulsating from my VP44 thats making the noise. i'm gonna be pi$$ed if i have to buy another part to make this guage work. i bought the guage but thought $68. was too much for a fuel line & thought i could make my own at the local auto parts store, well all three local auto parts stores could'nt find the right fittings so i endede up spending the extra $$$ for the fancy braided hose, if i have to buy an isolator than what's the sense of buying a mechanical guage???

Sounds like you went through the same routine I did. Knew nothing about plumbing and never heard of dash AN fittings before, and bought the fancy $$ braided hose, fought and cussed to plumb it to my DASH gauge pod, and then, Wallah!!!! Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt

Well now I've met someone who shares my pain :(

I have since removed the gauge and use it to occasionally hook up and check my pressure.

Summit, as illflem stated, it's a snubber, not an isolater. I believe that alot of those who are using snubbers are using grease gun lines with 1/8" NPT fittings. If you have the signal set to read at the VP44 inlet, try moving it below the fuel filter canister, should help.

Colin, as always, good to hear (see) from you. What, no pic. ???

:D

Do a search for snubber on all threads from any date, you will get two pages of results. An isolator is really only necessary for flammable liquids like gasoline. I like needle valves the best for controlling pulsations, only $7 from Grainger. Just a regular liquid filled gauge, about $10. I use oil pressure gauge tubing kits for fuel pressure, $5 per kit, nylon type is best. Napa also sells the tubing in bulk, 29¢/ft. I have less than $25 into my fuel pressure gauges (no lighting), been working leak, pulsation and noise free for years.

Happened to me too.......

I had mine hooked up pre filter too, from the schroeder fitting by the filter. I now have an electric gauge because the noise was so bad. I did put snubbers on my senders though. I figured if it made that much noise on the mechanical it couldn't be good for the senders either.

I'm starting to think that going cheap on anything for this truck ends up costing more because I have to redo it anyway.

it's all better now

thanks for the info VAUGHN & BIG SAINT , i switched it to the bottom of the filter and it doesn't make a peep now :D thanx to everyone else also, this forum just kicks a$$. now if we could gang up on this bucking/surging/hesitation problem that would be even better. LATER
