Hey guys, looking at a 2006 5. 9, my question is does the HPCR motors still need a fuel pressure gauge? If so, what pressures do they run?

For example, will the 0-15 PSI gauge that is in the 2002 24v, be useable in the 06 or is the max pressure higher than 15 psi? Thanks so much

I don't think any of the newer trucks actually "need" the FP gauge. It's just nice to see what you have and for tuning purposes.

If you don't plan any modding and will be running everything stock, I'd say a 0 -15 would be fine.

those that have installed aftermarket lift pump ( the walbro for one ) are seeing better fueling running at 20 to 22psi.

Not to hijack the thread but does anyone have any good info/pictures of installing an Autometer Phantom Fuel Pressure gauge... . Haven't had much luck finding any information. Thanks,

Shane

Agreed. Especially on the trucks with the intank LP, the CP3 isn't as "delicate" as the VP44. On the early 3rd gens, if the LP died you are sitting though.

I for one saw better mileage and a better running truck after installing the FASS and running around 25psi... and that was on a completely stock truck. And it was the pressure that made the difference... dropping from 25psi to 10psi made a significant/noticeable difference. I currently have the pressure set at 17psi (a happy medium) with good results.

Yep...

Forgot to mention that I have a 2006 Megacab... Thanks

The Phantom II match better. If you get the electric sending unit, it's a no brain'er. Tho, it's a 0-100psi gauge.

11-12PSI with the intake pump new. Mine has dropped to 9-10 idle, 6-9ish driving. near 0 WOT. But have a few boxes.

Here's a couple pics of my install. Let me know if you have any questions.

Guys, thanks so much for the info. I think I will swap the guage then for the hell of it as it work with that pressure!

Shane

If you do get a electric gauge, make sure you order the Autometer snubber to go with it or the gauge will fail in a matter of days!!!

I speak from experience!

Robert

Robert,

Hate to show my ignorance but what exactly is a snubber and where did you purchase it? I'll make sure to order one tomorrow before I install this thing... Thanks for save,

Shane

As for a snubber, I believe the exact wording would be it snubbs out pressure spikes. The Cummins motors have a brief spike in pressure at startup, frying the sender after a few times.

As for getting it, when I fried my sender, Autometer replaced the sender under warranty and sent a snubber with the replcement. Mabee call Autometer before ordering and see if they have a PN for it.

Robert

The CR's don't have the infamous pressure spike. The senders do not like vibration so just a length of rubber hose to isolate the vibration is all that is really needed. I ran mine like the pictures I posted for over a year without any fail or erratic gauge readings.
