My question is this. Where do these fuel pressure guage's hook up at? And where do you get one. I was told that they hook up on the top of the fuel filter? Is the lift pump just there to transfer fuel to the filter and then on to the injection pump?

Thanks for any help

My truck is a 99 2500 4wd LB

I reccomend nothing but the best Enterprise Engine has the best gauges IMHO. They are exclusively made by DiPricol, they are white face with blue numbers and light up blue at night they look so sweet and these gauges are made totally for our diesels. I just installed a pyro, boost, and fuel pressure gauge in the a-pillar mount myself last thursday night. The fuel pressure gauge hooks up to the fitting on the top rear part of the fuel filter housing. The fitting looks like an A/C line fitting. You take the needle out of the fitting then hook up a short piece of fuel line that runs to a sender you will mount on the firewall. Then you run an electric line from sender into cab to gauge. I love these gauges I looked at all before(autometer, spa, westech,) I bought and these are by far the best ones b/c they are made just for our trucks. Look them up at www.enterpriseengine.com or call Doug at 740-246-6329.

ty584, not to take away from big's pride in his gauges, but... . there are lots of choices. i like my Isspro

ev's. SPA, westach, Dakota Digital, and Nordskog, autometer, and i think even stewart warner make the gauges, to mention a few. the fp gauge is mechanical, ie, had to run a line into the cab. isolators are available which will use a fluid such as antifreeze in the cab, so no fuel in the line in the cab. with a mechanical gauge, i was able to connect at the schrader valve on the VP44 and check the pressure at the inlet to the VP without getting fluctuations or destroying the gauge. drilled and tapped banjo bolts are available--i got mine from geno's garage. while i was at it, i replaced all five with bigger bore banjos.

last, briarhopper (TDR member) has put together a "test kit" which is quite reasonable in cost, if you don't want a permanent gauge mounted.

you may want to consider a brand which will have at least an EGT gauge to match. it helps to see the post turbo EGT, to time shut down after the turbo is cooled adequately to prevent "coking" of the oil. boost is fun to watch, but less important to monitor than FP and EGT.

FP gauge should have at least 20 PSI capability.

A much less expensive alternative would be "briar hoopers" fuel pressure gauge setup. I got one and it works great and you don't have to install a guage. Do a search under products for "briar hooper fuel pressure guage" and read the thread. briar is a member and came up with this inexpensive fix for the members that needed help. He only charged $45. 00 for the complete setup, based on the quality of the unit he isn't making any money helping out the members of TDR. Hope this helps.

TY584,

Your meter will NOT connect the way Bigstick stated. On top of the fuel filter canister, you will see 3 bolt heads. The center one is for loosening the filter for removal. The one closest to the front of the engine is the post-filter port. Remove that bolt and you can screw in a standard grease gun hose( 1/8" pipe). The other end of the hose goes to your sender if you use an electric gauge.
