Has anyone tried a light for fuel pressure instead of an actual gauge? I know everyone likes to watch gauges but it sounds like when pressure drops to a preset number and a light comes on, it would do the trick. It would also save many dollars. Any thoughts from anyone?

It has been done and fits right in with the keep it simple plan. An oil pressure switch will do the job just fine.

You can get pressure alarm switches at a marine store. I use them to turn on a red light if oil or fuel pressure is low.

I have the BD low fuel pressure light kit($50), it works great. You just screw it in place of the factory shrader. I mounted the LED next to my EGT guage.

I have the Dakota Digital Fuel guage which flashes when the pressure drops too low or climbs too high. I have the low side set for 8 psi and the high side set for 30 psi(pusher pump runs about 23 psi). The flashing catches my attention very quickly.

What pressure will it light the led at?

the bd one is 5lbs, but if it is an actual HOBBS brand switch, most of them are adjustable [pull the rubber cap off the end and use allen key to fine tune switch]

I had the light and it sucks because you do not know if it is working. I thought I was going fine till I added the big fuel lines and noticed the wire had to the switch was broken and not sending any signal. I installed mine gauge and sure enough low fuel pressure. Just do it right and get a gauge.

If you rig the light right it will be on when you start until pressure is up. I have pressure sensors on both engine oil pressure and fuel pressure. When both are up to 10 PSI after starting the light turns out. I also have a fuel pressure gauge. The alarm light it to alert me to check my gauges. I'm going to rig a sensor on my coolant temp and EGT. All of these will light the same alarm light.
