Got a Brian Hopper guage the other day and when I hooked it up to the vp44 it read "0" at idle and the same when I took it out on the road and put my foot into it. I checked the guage and tried again only to get the same result. I assume that my LP is dead. Are my assumptions right???

fuel lift pump

At least the fuel lift pump is NOT buried inside the fuel tank like Ford does. That makes it much more difficult to change.

If it was in

the tank, it probably would last longer! That's what it was designed for, pushing not pulling and in the tank it woul be pushing more and pulling less.

Ben,

I am not convinced they last longer in Fords, they are just harder to change. Maybe the diesel pumps in Fords last longer than their gas submersible in tank pumps that fail, too. I think it is more that electric pumps isolated from the engine are more prone to failure than engine mounted mechanical pumps. My '91. 5 had the engine mounted mechanical pump and it was not problematic and it pulled, not pushed fuel from the tank just like the electric one does. I am not quite sure the issue is as simple as pulling or pushing fuel. I was told the electric pump was used in place of the mechanical pump to make fuel filter changes easier as there is not the need for the mechanical handle to prime the system and purge it of air. In actuality the old spin on filter was much easier to change than the cartridge type anyway. In many ways the new set up is a step backwards and less reliable. But then I understand the fuel pump is a minor issue compared to the new Ford 6. 0 engine's teething problems. Too bad, I do like the Ford crew cab and some of their E-450, etc. bigger than one ton trucks.

Thought Mine was dead but not

My buddy hooked up his Brian H. gage to my truck and it read zero, he then put it on his truck and the gage worked. He then put it back on my truck and then it read 16 psi. I think the schrader vavle was stuck or something. I have since put the a-pillar in and it has read 15 ever since. Make sure your vavle is not stuck.
