Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) It's a sad day

I just had a new set of gauges installed yesterday as my last fuel pressure gauge never worked right for more than a month. It would read between 2psi-14 psi. It was all over the place. Had some new sterwert warner gauges installed and now my fuel pressure seems to be constant... but I think it is low. When driving 55-65 I am getting about 6. 5 psi. When at idle I am getting about 8psi. Where would you guys start? Would you change the fuel filter first to see if that helps? Or would you go to DC dealer and have them check it out? I am still under warrenty according to my manual I was reading last night. Of coarse reading some past posts about lift pumps and they seem to want to replace it with the lift pump that is in the fuel tank which everyone seems to hate. Would you just buy a replacement for the current one on your own or scrap it all and get a FASS type system. My truck is stock. I am planning on going through some mountains with a gooseneck in about 6 weeks and I really don't want to break down because of a fuel pump related issue if I can help prevent it now. The local garage wants around $900 to install the FASS system... is that fair?

Thanks,

Thad

stop by a dealer and have them put their guage on it for you real quick and compare the two. Then I would look into the $70 lift pump (search for it on TDR) and the vulcan big line kit, no more worries after that with a stock truck. Definately try the filter first, but unless it is full of sludge, I doubt you will see any more than 1 psi difference. good luck.
