I am new to diesels and this website :confused:

Have a 2002 dodge 2500 with 125,000 miles with everything stock.

I just installed a fuel pressure guage. Fired her up last night

after I bled the air out of the line to the isolator. The pressure

read 10 -11psi then after about 15 seconds the pressure

dropped to 2psi and stayed :eek:. It sounds like it is running

OK.

Shut the engine down and fired her up again with the same

results. Did it a couple of times more and same results.

Any ideas? I borrowed a fuel pressure testor so tonight I

am going to see if it is the guage or something else. :{

Or am I staring down a lift pump?

Thank you in advance for responding.

Welcome to TDR

it seems like your lift pump works for a few seconds then quits

you may want to replace it with a better pump... ... . with low F/P it can and will take out the injection pump and thats about $1200+

you want about 10-14 psi at all times

Check for a leak in the line from the isolator to the gauge.

yup, had a similar issue, would build pressure till it opened the weak spot. check the connections on the back of the guage and the guage side of the isolator, sometimes the ferrel gets shifted out of position and pinches the line. Also, did you fill the guage line from the isolator to the guage with anti-freeze?

I had a problem with the relay and it did that but the pressure didnt drop near that far i think it dropped to 8 or 9 after the relay fix it stayed up about another year or so then the pump went out and vp44 to

I had the same symtoms and just had to top off the isolater with antifreeze and the pressure is back to normal. With your miles I'd be suspicious of the lift pump too. Better to replace it and be ahead of the game:)

Low fuel pressure update

I checked the FP with a simple tester last night

and got the same results. Upon startup the pressure goes to

10-11 psi. It then drops to 1 to 2 psi. Gusee it is a Lift Pump!!

Now should I put in a FASS/ Air Dog system or replace the pump

with stock or add a lift pump to the origional?:{

FASS are Air Dog would be great. :cool:

i think fass and airdog are the two big ones for problem free systems because they warranty it and you no longer need a spare pump. Installed airdog on mine and have noticed smoother idle and a rock steady fp. Glacier makes a kit that is pretty popular on here as well.

stock lift pump idle 12 lbs to the floor with comp on 5x5 3lbs. cruising on the highway 7-10 lbs. auto meter fuel pressure with isolater. (thanks ebay)
