Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) fuel pressure question

i hooked a mechanical guage to both ports on to of filter canister and both show 0 psi then liked to never got it to crank i guess it let air in system when i was changing from 1 port to another. does no pressure at these ports mean i have a bad lift pump or am i at wrong loaction for correct reading . i was thinking of installing a mallory comp110 fuel pump i had laying around off race car as a pusher pump does anyone suggest this. i would like you input on this bad or good thanks rudy

Rudy, I'm a bit unclear... you have 0 psi's at both ports when the truck is running ? If you have 0 pressure while the truck is running, either the pump is DOA or the gauge is DOA.



I'd stay away from that Mallory as a pusher pump. I went through 3 Mallory 4150's before I decided that it wasn't the pump for the job. If it fails I doubt the OEM will be able to pull fuel through the Mallory.

Test your gauge with air to see if is in good shape , Second do get a Fuel pressure gauge to see the Psi in real time under way or before or at shut down or start up . Third your pump is gone south if your gauge is working . Forget a pusher pump if you do not have a gauge set up . The new pumps do not seem to Need extra help as to psi , if you do add one seven psi is all that is needed but for now forgetaboutit. LOL Ron in LOUISVILLE KY

yes it is 0 psi when truck is running at both ports i just layed line up under windshield wiper for temporary check of pressure at wot but it has none at idle. truck seems to run OK maybe a little weak at higher rpms, maybe this is why. how can i find a cummins dealer in my area I'm in SC close to Clemson to get a lift pump. i just bought truck with 130k it ain't got no warranty left

now out of 6 cummins dealers in my area no one stocks it and the stealer wants 330$
