I just installed a digital fuel pressure gauge. On start-up the gauge reads at 0, builds up to 13 or 14 and stays constant at 13 or 14 while the engine is operating. When the engine is turned off, the gauge drops back to 0. I noticed in other postings members noted fuel pressure changes during idle and WOT. Should I be seeing fuel pressure changes as the engine goes from idle to full operation? Or is the constant 13 ok?

The truck is '98. 5 24v with auto.

Thanks.

What does it give for a pressure if you momentarily bump the starter, without starting the truck, and then leave key in "on" position? It should be 1-2 psi higher than idle. My numbers are:

12. 5psi bump

11psi idle

7-8psi cruising

4-5psi WOT.

The WOT pressure has me a bit nervous, but the place I got my truck from is filled with morons, so as long as it doesn't drop anymore, I will deal with it.

With your digital, I would be suspect of a continous value. Have you contacted the company that made it?

BTW, make sure you have a new fuel filter before getting base line numbers to compare with others.

My '99 shows 15# at idle, 13# at highyway cruise, and 11# at wide open throttle. (2nd lift pump)

Your readings should vary with engine load. ;)

Edit: should have posted that this is with a mechanical Isspro guage.

I've got a Dakota Digital FP guage and my pressure is 14 to 15 psi at idle, 11 to 12 at cruise and 9 to 10 at WOT. Maybe you've got a bad sender, call the manufacturer and see what they suggest.

Good luck,

Bill

gauge

Thanks for info folks. I have placed a call into Nordskog to their technical support and am expecting a call back.

In reponse to some of your questions:

With the key on, but not cranking the gauge reads 0. With a bump of the key, but not cranking the engine, the readings start at 0, then rise to about 6 or 7 and stay there.
