Fuel pressure readings??

I have a '98 12 valve and have an electric fuel pressure gauge installed. This is what I did: I checked the pressure readings of the electric gauge against a mechanical fuel pressure test gauge and find that the electric gauge is about 4 PSI lower then the mechanical one. I have the electric gauge hooked up in the head of the banjo bolt right at the P7100 and the test gauge I hooked up right off the top of the fuel filter in the bleed screw with a TST adapter. I don't see any reason really for this to matter and wonder if anyone on here thinks there might be a difference in the readings from these two spots?

If you don't have a gauge snubber ahead of the sender it's likely the lift pump's pulsation's are messing with the readings and will shortly kill the sender. The pulsation's on my first sender killed it in less than five minutes, the second lasted a few months but never read right. It was cheaper to buy an entire mechanical gauge setup than another sender, it has worked fine for over two years but also requires a snubber.

What kind of set up do you have for your gauge? I worked for nearly 3 weeks to find a decent set up, with several e-mails to Illflem. I think I've finally put together a good one, but I've only had time to hook up the plumbing so far. The gauge will go in sometime this week. I'll write more about it once I finish the install and run it a bit.

I do have a needle valve as a snubber and the guage reads steady. I did kill my first sender by putting in right no the pump with no snubber but it also started leaking fuel so I was able to get it warrantied. They sent an updated version back to me. It's an autometer gauge 0-100 PSI. It has been working fine except that it reads a little low. I will probably go with a mechanical gauges at some point because of this. I wish I had known better when I got this setup so I wouldn't have put down so much cash for an electric gauge.

Well, hold tough a little longer. I've found a Westach electric gauge that reads 0-50 psi (custom built, but at an affordable price). It uses a readily-available VDO sender. Westach custom calibrated the gauge to the sender.



My fingers are crossed (which makes it kinda tough to work on the delicate stuff!).
