I am a new CTD owner and a new member to the TDR. I have been reading and learning as much as I can about my new investment( if you can call it that )
One topic that has been discussed in length in the problems with the lift pumps.
So, as many have recommended, I ordered a set of gauges ( EGT, Boost and Fuel Pressure) which will be delivered and installed soon.
With all this talk about failing lift pumps trashing out the VP-44, it made me kind of parinoid. So I deceided to install a temporary fuel pressure gauge under the hood untill the other ones arrive.
I removed the stem from the schrader valve on the side of the fuel filter housing & installed a braided SS line to the fuel pressure gauge. As you can see in my signature I have a 2001 3500 ETH/ DEE 4x4 w/ 38,000 miles.
When I started the engine, I get pressure readings of 4. 5 - 5 psi. at idle. From everything I have read, shouldn't it be around 13 - 15 psi.
Do I have a failing lift pump? Did I install it in the right location and properly? If this is a low pressure, how long do I have until I start causing damage to the VP-44?
I do have a extended warrantee. Would it be covered?
Any information you can give would be helpful.
Thanks for your help.
Frank
