Just got my 02 auto yesterday and I have a slight engine surge when rolling to a stop, has any had this same surge? I thought I would check the lift pump pressure but it is not like my 99 was. Can someone tell me how to check the pressure on these newer trucks?

Thanks boatman

If your talking about an erractic idle (fluctuation of 50 to 100 rpm) mine did that too when it was new. The only time it will do it now is if it is real hot when towing and coming to a stop. The duration was/is about 3 times and then it smooths out.

You have two Schrader valves on the truck, one pre-filter and one at the inlet to the VP44. You can check your FP at either location. Be sure to remove the Schrader valve if your test gauge set up does not push in the needle. A -4AN fitting will adapt to the Schrader test port. Hope this helps !

this might be normal

boatman,

This might be normal. I'm not sure what the experience is with an auto, but I'll get a surge if I don't get off the clutch before the engine drops below idle. The ECM detects the rpm drop and feeds fuel to handle the 'load'.

There's so much low end torque that I can pop the clutch gently from a standstill, and roll across the parking lot at idle, even uphill. I can't say I'm lugging the engine, because it will accellerate easily if I touch the throttle.

If you bring the rpm down below idle, she'll respond with a little fuel to bring it back, is this what's happening?

The surge is only when the engine is hot and I am coasting to a stop around 10-15 mph and the engine just gets to idle, and it does do it about 3 times/surges. I guess it could just be alittle tight still. Where can I get one of these adapters for a pressure guage?

Thanks boatman
