I have a question about fuel pressure. I have a westech guage on back order right now, and at I have is a short mech test gauge. I can only test at idle and my pressure is 14 psi, do you think my W. O. T is still at a safe pressure or should I stay out of the go pedal till my gauge comes?

Thanks

I agree with SEmerson in the fact that there is no way to tell where your pressure is at wot and yeah you are probably still getting enough fuel to the VP but if your not its probably gonna cost you a VP pump somewhere in the $1000. 00 range. IMHO I think I would just wait on the gauge just for piece of mind. Just my thoughts.

I have a handheld gauge also. I can drag my fuel pressure down about 5psi in the driveway just romping on the throttle. Is yours about the same? I'm replacing my LP soon, it's down around 10-11 psi idling now...

I've got an autometer guage. It sits at 14-15 psi in the driveway and I can't get it to drop below 12 WOT. I would think you are ok to drive until you get a guage in.

12-14psi idle

9-11psi normal driving

5-6psi WOT

Sold the truck, but will help new owner with FASS install when it comes time.

I'd wait, the lp system is too squirley to trust it.

I'd rather spend the $1000 on other things than a new VP.

I monitor pre ff (lp output) and post ff (VP input) just to be certain I know what the VP is getting.

I have the Westach dual combo fuel pressure gauge and monitor pre-filter and post-filter fuel pressure. Still running with the original lift pump, pre-filter pressures are as follow when towing our 13,500 lb 5th wheel:

Idle - 16+ PSIG (gauges pegged - shoulda got the 0-30 PSIG :( )

Cruise - 15 PSIG

WOT - 11-12 PSIG

As others have said, you're probably OK, but the only way to be sure is to have a gauge on it at WOT conditions.

I just don't have the self control to stay out of the go peddle. I guess thats why I bought a spare VP... I personally think you are going to drive yourself crazy about it. Just drive it like you normally do.

My truck (See Sign Block Below) is stock at the moment. I plan to bomb it as time and money allow. I don't think I am going to FASS it, however I plan to rear Lift Pump it, in addition to the Stock Lift Pump. Should I use the 30 PSI Westach Gauge? Thanks in advance, Moose00

Before you get all wrapped up with moving the lp, be aware that DTT has come up with a reasonably possible solution to the lp problem. Not much known yet but surely info will be out directly. It is mechanical, run off a added pulley on the engine. Details sketchy right now.

I have rear mounted the OEM lp (and a couple of other things see sig) and it seems to be holding up ok.

If your 'hand-held' gauge can reach your windshield, just tape the gauge to it facing you and drive. I took a picture of my 'hand-held' gauge at "0 psi " WOT and gave it to the Service Writer, and they replaced my lift pump under warranty! :)

Ok I got a longer gauge and put on my windshield, and got 14psi @Idle, 10-11psi@cruise, and 5psi@ wot. I don't know how long I've been running these pressure, but my truck seems fine. I'm going to order a lift pump now.
