I have a 2000 Dodge and I have installed the Westach fuel pressure gage at the Schrader check valve. At idle the gage reads 10psi and this is with a fuel filter at 12,000 miles or a fresh filter. At 2000 rpm/70 mph it reads 7-8 psi. Would there be higher readings if the sending unit for the gage were mounted at the fuel filter?

Pre or post?

Possibly pre filter. Unless there is pressure drop from the outlet of the FF to the VP. When I had the electric pump, All I cared about wass confirming that the thing was working. But I was still post filter.

Things have changed.

Post, I would think that is where the Schrader check valve is located and the only other option I know of with the 2000 is to use the metal fuel filter cap to mount the sending unit. I thought someone may have tried these 2 locations and would have remembered the pressures, I can guess which tells me nothing.

Both of them would be post filter, so the pressure change would be very little (just the restriction of the line, and fittings). Pressure at the VP44 is what you are really concerned about. How much the filter drops the pressure depends on how dirty the filter is, and how much fuel you are flowing through it. With a clean filter on mine, and the comp on 5x5, then there is about a 5psi pressure drop across the filter. With the comp on 1x5 there is about a 2psi drop.
