Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) fuel pressure?

i put a fuel pressure gauge on my 12v today,and the results are at idle25psi at 2500its about15psi. its after the p7100 pumpi got the idea on this site last night. i also am using a filled gauge. but i didnt put a shut off on it and after setting it was hard to start. so i put a shut off right on the fitting at the pump and it starts like it should. so you cant just leave it on. thanks

Pressure should be 18-24 psi at idle, 28-36 at 2000 rpm with no load.

Fresh fuel filter?

Mine dropped pressure at higher rpm's when I put the fuel pressure guage in and I put a new overflow valve in and now am running about 22 idle and 30-32 at 2500 rpm. As far as the shutoff valve I have mine just slightly open. It takes my gauge about 1-2 minutes to come up all the way.
