Ok, Anyone out there running a Mechanical Fuel Pressure Guage, hooked directly up to a decored schrader, no snubber, no isolator?

Have you ever witnessed the Fuel Gauge Gitterbug?

Under heavy load during acceleration My needle will jump up and down very quickly about 1lbs.

Suggestions?

I have both an electrical fuel pressure sending unit and a mechanical. Both are hooked to both schrader test points pre and post fuel filter, and both agree and do not pulse or fluctuate.

Mine to

Just hooked up my Elect Fuel pressure gauge couple weeks ago. My gauge pulsates also about 1-2 lbs back and forth. My pressure is terrible at 9 idle and 5-6 cruising with constant pulsating. I've been told my pump is going bad, I will be buying a new one soon from cummins and see what happens. I am also thinking about the move closer to the tank. Just read another post where a member is going to post a list of parts needed. :D

CFAR I have the exact set up you are talking about ( decored schrader with diesel fuel to a mechanical gauge ).

I have not towed heavy since putting in the gauge about 3 weeks ago. But sometimes at idle or cruising freeway ( usually between 70 - 80 mph ) I will notice the gauge pulsing. I have a 0 - 30 psi gauge with marks at 1/2 psi all the way up, and it looks to be pulsing between 1/2 and 3/4 psi. My gauge will usually be between 11 and 14 psi on the freeway or idleing.

I talked to a very good mechanic about this around where I live, and he said that it is normal. He said when running a FP gauge with no isolater the gauge picks up every single little variance in FP. He said the variance is caused by the VP44. He did not elaborate on why the VP44 did this. He sounded logical and this person is very very highly recomended in this area.

I don't know if we having the same problem ( if it even is a problem ) or if any of this helps, but if you or anybody knows anything that is contrary to what I said please let me know!

Good Luck!

Jeff

I have...

a Dakota Digital electric FP gauge permantly mounted in mine. It is a 0 - 30 psi gauge (sending unit) and measure in . 2# increments. My pressure will vary about . 5# with no change in driving. This has been verified with my temporary mechanical gauge, so I just assume it is normal. :D Don't sweat the little stuff. :)
