i HAVE A 2000-2500-5. 9-6SPEED. WITHOUT A FUEL PRESURE GAUGE AND WOULD LIKE TO INSTALL ONE. i'M NOT SURE WHAT THE PRESURE READING SHOULD BE. tHE ONLY THINGS i HAVE ADDED ARE A DUAL EXHAUST, KN TYPE OF FULL BREATHER, AND EXTRA COOLING AIR INTAKES FOR THE TURBO AND AIR FILTER, PLUS A SOUTH BEND 1947-OFE CLUTCH WITH HYD ASSY. iS THERE A GOOD MANUAL TO GET FOR INSTALL DIRECTIONS ? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP :)

Hello,I installed my fuel pressure tap at the fuel inlet at the vp44, i purchased a fitting from Genos garage, You can tap in at the vp44 or the fuel filter cap, Genos sells a fuel filter cap with a tapped hole to accommodate a sensor or a line, there are several options of fuel gauges, electric or mechcanical ether one will work well its a mater of preference,

Fuel pressure should be 12-15 psi at idle and no less then 6 psi during hard pulling, anything less could risk damage to the vp44, I just replaced a oem carter pump that was failing( was only making 4psi under load) with a ddrp-02 fass pump and the fuel pressure is around 19 psi at idle and i havent seen it drop below 14 yet and i just pulled a s10 blazer 50 miles, my truck is stock with just a power puck and a k&N,

its pretty easy to hook up the fuel gauge, if you use the fuel inlet at the vp44 all you do is remove the factory fitting and replace it with the special fitting, connect the sensor or line to it and run the wires / line into the cab and connect to the gauge.

The other option is the fuelfilter cap, just remove the stock cap and replace it with the special cap with a port and connect to it run the wires or line to the gauge.

Give the staff at Genos Garage a call they can help with the install of the fuel psi gauge and recommend a gauge package for you.

Regards Rich

I have had very good luck with Autometer electric fuel pressure gauges. I have had one on my truck for 7 years with no problems. Have also installed them in three friends trucks, also with no problems. As RCatalo said, Geno's is a good place as you can get everything you need at once. Summit racing may have better prices on autometer gauges, but not by a lot. Good luck!!

I have a 2001 2500 6 speed and I installed the Westach gauge from Geno's Garage. It worked great BUT showed me that my stock lift pump was going out.

I can't say enough about getting the junk stock lift pump off your truck. I used the FASS DDRP (Direct Dodge Replacement Pump) and it is awesome. On my truck the fuel pressure is now running around 20 psi so the 0-16 psi gauge and sending unit stays pegged unless you are really accelerating hard and then the gauge indicates 15 psi. I also installed a 0-15 psi mechanical gauge and it is pegged as well.

Sigh...

From the mouth of Bosch;

The VP44 Fuel injection pump must have, at all times, no less than 10 psi with OEM fuel lines.

Mopar/Daimler Chrysler was pulling monkeys out of their butts with the flow theory, Cummins declined to stand up and challenge due to contract I suspect.

10 psi is the minimum. You fall below that, you are risking damage and premature failure to the VP.
