Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Fuel primer leaking?

I noticed that my truck is leaking a little bit of diesel and at first thought maybe the return line was cracked. But after looking the only thing I think it could be is the rubber cover on the fuel primer is cracked and easily comes off. The primer assembly had a good bit of diesel on it. If that rubber cover over the primer does not seal tight will it leak diesel?

There is a 50¢ o-ring available from any auto parts that seals around the button.

Just take the old one in and have them match it.
