I have a 2005 3500 with 90k miles and it just died going down the highway. I had it towed to the dealer and they stated it needed a fuel pump and that caused the fuel injector pump to go bad also. They stated the injector pump would be under wty and will cost around $680 to replace the fuel pump. Does that sound correct??

Have them replace the fuel pump only. I can't say I have ever seen a bad fuel pump on a common rail take out an injector pump. Usually when the lift pump quits, the truck just dies. It is not like the VP44 days where it always ruined the pump. Check your warranty as both are usually covered, especially if it is engine mounted. Not positive about tank mounted.

The $680 is around what it usually costs to move the lift pump form the fuel filter and install a replacemtnt in the fuel tank. My dealer replaced mine for about $100 less some time ago, but a lot depends on the labor rate. IIRC the kit was about $325 plus the labor.

I'd be a little skeptical about a Bosch CP3 high pressure pump failure since it usually doesn't happen.

The in tank pump is a great way to go. As far as failures, I've not read of one here on the TDR and could find no evidence of problems when I did a Google search.
Be wary of peoples motivations.

The cost of the in tank lift pump sounds about right, for all the labor involved(if that includes the CP3 labor too), and if you can get a fresh CP3 injection pump thrown in under warranty... . :)

Ya but they also think it took out his "injector pump" so I would take all this with t grain of salt. Maybe it's the first time the tech has ever worked on a CR?

NO lift pump that stops pump will ever Kill the CP3,Now if the lift pump blows internally and the GP has enough volume it will pull the contaminates into the GP... its extremely rare when this occurs.

Were are these techs getting their training:mad: Rip of customer training. . or is it some under develop service writer with the only understanding of $$$$. .

Last night they called me and stated my truck is not ready. They replaced the fuel pump and the injector pump (this part is under wty as I have 90k on truck). They stated that they still can't get it to start and they worked on it all day. Anyone have any ideas??

Injectors... ..... Now check and see if the NEW Injection pump has Bosch labels. . if it is reman Buy Mopar labeled, its mostly a POS. Have them put your Bosch factory pump back on..... in some case this factory pump will out live the Mopar reman.

If they actually worked on it ALL day and can't get it to start. . They DO NOT KNOW WHAT THERE DOING. Dealer ships claim to to experts " also charge top $ on this platform" This could be as simple as bad connection or sensor,to Injector replacement. None the less any experts within minutes would have it running or what's the cause. .

Oh ya well the GP sure. I don't even want to get into that/those/it (?). Such items are not even discussed in more respectable circles.

(GP) Gear pump . . its the device on the Back of the body of the CP3. . this device creates vacuum, and lift the internal pressure. It is very robust unit, but its NOT very forgiving.

What warranty do you have that will replace the HPCR injection pump on a seven year old truck that has been modified?

I have the Banks 6 Gun and IQ and I pull a 15k horse trailer. It really improved the towing with all the safety issues taken care of. I added the banks TQ several years later and wished I changed that sooner as I picked up 2 mpg. I also picked up 1-2 mpg with the tuner.

Well they have replaced the fuel pump, another fuel injector pump, and now they want $485 more to replace the release valve, could that have been the problem all along??
