1996 2500 td ram--no mods 80,000 auto tran--

Considering an $800. 00 fuel pump mod to my mech 7100 Bosch. Looking for experienced folks for pros & cons ?? Is it possioble to gain 70 HP and not put engine and transmission at risk?

r pettit, 800 clams is a lot of money for 70 horse. Take a look at the TST site and check out their fuel plates. A #6 is about max for a stock trans, and even then some say to be careful. I would do a search on this site to find out more about "bombs" for the 12 valve. The sky is the limit as to what you can do to your truck. The trans is the weak link as you already know. Off hand it doesn't sound like a great deal to me. If you can do some easy wrenching on your own (with our help of course if you need it), then you can do what your mech is probably going to do for 250 bucks give or take. I like the #6, but if you don't have the trans to get the power to the ground, it's a little less fun.

Hope this helps.

P. S. Went through Ennis on our trip to Yellowstone last year. Awsome country there. Had a great time at Lewis & Clark Caverns also

Definitely go the TST route. Your engine won't even blink at that power upgrade but your transmission will. Anybody that tells you they can do this without affecting your transmission is either a liar or moron or a combination thereof.

70 hp is just the beginning, trust me. I'd do a converter and valve body. Call Goerend Brothers Trans and talk to them. 563-778-2719

You can get NEW injectors for $800, even the relatively new and pricey EDMs. I think $800 would get you more than that, though. Have to double check. RUN, dont walk, to another place to do business with. The "mechanic" saw you coming from a mile off, and sensed your lack of knowledge and understanding of the simplicity of the mechanical engines, and wants to use it to his advantage. That is where WE, the TDR membership come in, to steer you in the right direction that will get you the most bang for your buck.

Come South. I will get you more for $800. I think whatever you do to the engine will kill the stock transmission. Down here most folks go with the SunCoast. A real class operation. All are good , just different ways to get there.

On the power the first thing I would do is the 3K governor springs. No matter how much fuel you get in there you gotta spin the RPM's to use it. Then the plate. As far as the injectors go, I went to the 300"s, then the 370's, and back to the 215's. The 370 spray pattern does not match our pistons but still it will fuel the motor. I just didn't like um. Never felt right and to much smoke for me.

Try um and see.

First off get a pyro gauge. Then order a #10 plate,3K kit and set the gov arm to where you want your fuel curve to start at. Remember power is great but smoke is not. Opps, thats only in Cali!
