We are working on a 2000. It has no lift pump presser, (stock pump) we can hear the pump running. Is the problem with these pumps the motor or is it the impellors that are problem?

I think the problem is with the impeller. When mine has stopped making pressure you could still hear the pump running, just no fuel. Randy

I have found that the coupling between the pump and the motor is prone to giving out. If you remove the cover from the end of the pump and pull out the vane rotor you will see a plastic coupling which fits over the flat spaded shaft from the motor. I can only imagine what they are supposed to look like as both of the pump that have gone bad on me this was destroyed. Other than that simple little plastic piece the pump is in perfect condition. I am not paranoid or anything but it looks to me that it is engineered to fail. I will avoid using the factory lift pump at all cost. I am trying to find something else now. I did not buy my truck to carry around spare parts such as this to change on the side of the road.
