fuel pump test

I have a used fuel pump and was wondering if they can be tested off the engine. If so how do you do it?

To some extent yes put hose on intake to a fuel container supply 12v to pump with long hose on out port use long hose up hill to at least eight feet with a psi gauge in line restrict line with a small orfice about 2/32 about a foot from pump out put side will not be accurate but will show if pump is putting out any psi and flow . Rember restriction makes Psi Pumps make flow and our system has a pop off return valve in line . do this test if you will but it could be a mess , do it out side easy clean up area , clear plastic hose and you can see the flow . Thanks for the info Ron. It does sound like a messy job. Probably be easier to put it on and read the pressure off my gauge.
