I think I may have caused a leak on the return fuel line tee at the back of the block or maybe the banjo connector on the back of the head when I replaced the tappet gasket. Is that banjo connector and tee setup really necessary to the operation or can it be bypassed? I really don't want to dig in back there unless it's a must do setup.

What I know ( not a whole lot ). Excess fuel from the injectors and the VP meet at that tee and return to the tank. As far as I know the pressure is not very high as the VP overflow is something like 14psi to activate. You could re engineer to have seperate lines to a different style tee in a friendlier location ( just talking here ). I have heard the rubber style grommets become hard in the original tee and may crack. I have seen those grommets for sale somewhere and there was a post in this forum or mopar1973man.com. I believe they are pretty pricey from Cummins which led to this person looking elsewhere. The banjo on the back of the head may have been disturbed during your project and may just need to be tightened ( wishful thinking ) or the nuts on the tee. I do not think any of those are easy to access and may call for thinking outside the box ( like tool modifications ). The banjo on the back of the head especially. Depending on how bad your leak is you may want to have the banjo and tee grommets on hand before attempting anything ( Murphy thing ).

You might try to tighten the banjo on the back of the head if that is where the leak is. If the leak is in the tee fitting, there is a Dorman quick connect fitting. You can replace the plastic insert in the quick connect fitting. I don't remember the size, may be 5/16. I had a leak there and replaced the insert. Solved the problem.

I was able to reach in back of the head and the banjo is dry but the tee is damp. That is a strange looking tee...there is a compression nut on the branch but not on the run. Is that a push-on type fitting and if so how do you remove it? Thanks guys, I do appreciate your feed back
