I'm sorry if this has already been answered before, but I'm wondering if anyone out there has come up with a viable option to rubber hose for the fuel return lines. I'm experiencing a small leak in mine and before I tear into it, I thought maybe someone has come up with something that will last longer. Thanks!

Shields Fire - ACOL USCG Type A1 SAE J1527/ISO 7840 5/16 I. D. for the return, 3/8" for the intake. From most marine shops.

I unbolted the banjo fitting and pulled the metal line assemble off and cut it to about 3" in length. I then tilted it upwards and ran my rubber return hose over the top of the pump and supported it with a hose guide loop under the intake elbow but ontop of the injector lines. It is easy to reach, inspect and replace if needed.

Bill, what is the Shields Fire hose? How is it different from standard fuel hose from Napa? Just never heard of it.

Thanks,

Blake

Blake, it's high grade fire proof marine fuel hose. The stuff is very thick, the 3/8 hose is about 3/4" diameter. I don't see how it wouldn't last the life of the truck. About $4/ft.

Just like Bill said... that stuff is tough.

One precautionary note: With the marine hose make sure you use good clamps and don't be bashful about tightening them... you'll end up with air leaks if you tighten them to regular old rubber hose specs.

SPECS. for fuel lines

I will make this brief.

I'm having the fuel line problems that every one with the 12 V'ers are having. I have bad shoulders so I'm going to have a mechanic do the labor BUT I'm supplying the parts.

West Marine fuel lines ---

3/8" #282269 @ $2. 19 a ft. and 5/16" #282251 @ $2. 09 a ft.

The specs are --- SHIELDS FIRE-ACOL USCG TYPE A1 SEA J1527/ISO 7840 --- IF this helps anyone else.

***** I edited the Part # for the 5/16 hose - ABOVE IS NOW CORRECT*****

The S. Steel hose clamps are as much as the tubing. :{ $3. 39 ea. at West Marine for the good ones.

GOOD LUCK :D :D :D:

Good find on the lines..... this thread will be very valuable to someone trying to find the good stuff to replace their lines with.

Part #'s makes everything nice.

Matt

jolyman, you're almost lucky to have bad shoulders. Replacing the lines has got to be the worst job on these trucks by far.

Does anyone know how much of each line we need to buy to replace both?

Thanks,

Blake
