I want to replace my fuel return line and probably the feed line on my 1998 12 valver. It connects differently than my 96 did. It doesn't have any clamps on the lower connection. Can I just take the old off and hose clamp on a new one? What size hosing for the two lines?

My truck idles badly and dies alot when cold so I figure this is a start to get things right.

I bought the kit from Larry B. The OEM lines up front are the quick connects, they rear connections are the plastic crimped over the OEM steel lines.

The front quick connects remove easy, I used a razor to trim off the rears. Then the new lines use SS clamps x4. Easy job.

PS- Check ALL your brake lines if you have not already done so.

rrl989,

Dumb question probably. So when you removed the front hose at the quick connect, did you just push the new hose next to the quick connecter left on the metal tubing and clamp it there? Then just clamp the new hose onto the tubing next to the frame? When I went to Larry B's, it looks like just straight tubing. Thanks, Herb

HerbW, for idle and dying try setting your low idle speed up. Idle should be set at 750 to 800 rpm while trans is in drive and a/c on (block your wheels).

Return line 5/16.

Supply Line 3/8.

It seems he stated he removed the the connectors off the line. But you could cut the line behind them if their is enough line left to push the hose on.

The quick connects are on the hose section that gets tossed, then, Yes you just slide the replacement lines over the metal fuel line sections front and rear along frame. Larry B kit includes the clamps and the two sizes of rubber lines. Put something under to catch the fuel as it drains out of the old lines.

the Larry B fuel lines arrived today. Super quick to my home. The hoses look great and I was able to use Paypal to buy and address my order. Nice! It seems like my old fuel lines are heat shrunk onto the metal lines with a loose hose over it. Is that how the original is put on and I just shave it off? I need the truck daily to screw up on this little job. Yes, I do need to turn up my RPMS. To do it right don't I need a special tach to do it? I don't know how accurate the dash one is. Anyone in the Portland area with the gear? Herb

No you don't need a tach, just loosen the hold nut and adjust till you see about 1,000 rpm on the truck's tach. Maybe 900 with a stock trans, my DTT pulls down 200 rpm in drive and the AC is maybe 50 rpm. I idle just over 750 in gear at stop lights in the summer.

I have a 95 so no comment on the fuel lines. . :)
