today i went to get in my truck hit the key it fired for about 1/2 a second so i tried it again and nothing. I was parked on a steep hill and my fuel light was on, so i coasted it to a flat place and tried it again ,NOTHING!!!!!!!!!! Then i smelled diesel i popped the hood to see what was going on and fuel was pouring out of the clear drain line on the bottom of the fuel filter the lever was in the correct position. Has this happened to anyone else? Whats the fix, also how do I bleed the air out of the lines so I can get the beast to start again?

If fuel is coming out of the drain with the valve closed you will have to resolve that problem before you can get the air out of the system. If it's a 12 valve, I can't help you, if 24 valve, loosen the fitting where the fuel enters the VP-44 injection pump from the fuel filter, have someone bump the starter and leave the ign. in on position, fuel transfer pump should run 20-30 seconds, repeat until you get good clear fuel at this point, loosen first three injector lines wgere they enter the cyl. head, repeat the bump starter procedure, when you get fuel to this point, tighten lines to proper torque and itr should run. Lotsa luck... bg

what is the proper torque setting for this? Also how hard is th to get the injector lines off I have stock injectors ,I dont know how to work on them

The proper torque for the nut where the line connects to the injector on a 24 valve engine is 28 ft. lbs. bg

I do not know what year your truck is, but here is my story. I got the to bus stop ome morning and smelled diesel. I looked under the hood and sure enough fuel was spraying out the top of the filter.

Turns out that my '99 has a fuel heater in the canister. The potting (Plastic) around the heater had cracked and the fuel was comming out of there. It would have probably burned if I had left it on a little longer.

I ordered a new fuel filter canister from Cummins (the heater alone is not replacable) and installed it. Had the devil's own time getting the truck going, but all is OK now.

It is critical to know where yur fuel is coming from.

I cant thank you enough as bad as I hated to work on my truck on Sunday I had to. I found where the fuel was coming from and fixed that. Then following your instructions I was able to get my truck running.

Thank You,
