Skyjacker Confused Me

Well I've owned my truck since Feb and it was all stock except for the pump being advanced an unknown amount by the prior owner, he couldn't even tell me, I putt an HTT 16cm housing on it and it really helped, but still no power, fixed the break-over post and spring(about wore in two)helped alittle more but still a dog, went by friend of mines diesel shop(Cedar City Diesel) to ask him if he could tell if the screw had been turned he said no it hadn't, he jumped up there and in about 15 minutes and an idle readjustment, my truck has some real POWER now I cannot believe what that screw done, I've read it on here but WOW, and he said he barely turned it in, the truck barely puffs any smoke at all, it didn't hurt my mileage and I am happy with the increase, it was just enough. :D

Although a full set a gauges are very handy to have they are not nesessary if you simply drive the truck and perform an ocassional power burst/burn-out.

Now if you tow heavy loads with it (not a Lawn & Garden tractor) and dyno/drag race then you will want a gauge set.

A modified fuel pump injectors etc. will not cause the engine to melt unless you USE the availavle power for a given load/length of time. My 1990 is testimony to this.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we can modify our engine to develop much more HP than OEM and STILL obtain the same or better fuel ecomomy with NORMAL driving habits.

After turning the screws who drives normal? :-laf

No I dont have a pyro, I plan to install one, not in a hurry, I have gauges all over my '03, I know about pulling something up extended grades and letting it get to hot, no my '92 is just a driver and LOL now a few short burst for passing someone, thats all. I do plan to put a pyro on it though. thanks

In all seriousness, I drove "normal" like from Tuggers home in Southern VA to my home in Northern OH and was suprised to se how much fuel had remained in the tank.

I know the EGT gauge never topped 800/900°F. It generally operates @ 600/700°

Screw is on the back of the pump, if never tampered with it has a plastic cover and a steel lock colar on it that you have to remove. No I haven't been driving normal either, but my fuel mileage is the same, its awesome, dont get me wrong just barely turned in the screw, theres a whole lot there if I want it, but I'm happy with what I got, if I need more I have my '03 to satisfy that urge. .

If I drive "normal" I get good mileage. If I drive "nice" I get better mileage. :D Like mentioned before "normal" to some of us doesn't necessarily mean nice, but we all know what Greenleaf means.

Taking that collar off and turning that screw in just a bit sure does make a difference, I remember the first time I did one... I think I went 2 turns, a little too much. I took off and you coudn't see anything behind me except a black cloud, pretty cool when I was 18 though. I turned it back out a half turn or so and left it there. It's unbelievable how far things have come since then (98). Now my truck has more power and less smoke than the 1st gen without any of the boxes turned on. The only thing they never seem to gain on is mileage.

WARNING: Fuel Screw Tampering Alert!

This is just a small sample of some of the trouble your in for, not to mention potential and untimely meetings with the authorities. :-{}

Start playing with the fuel screw and you better get big pickle jar and start throwing your spare cash in it for when the transmission goes south. :rolleyes:

I turned in my fuel screw in a little bit and it helped but i want more, could some one let me know how to get some more power. thanks
