Alright I did some adjusting on my fuel screw tonight and I just got a few questions to make sure I did everything correctly. I first removed the metal cover and removed the lock collar. I then decided I'd just remove the entire screw from the pump (roughly 18 turns), turned the jambnut about 2-2. 5 turns ccw and reinstalled the screw in the pump (roughly 20-21 turns in). When I had the screw out I notice for one thang that #2 flowed out which I assume is normal and that the screw that a small L shaped piece on it. Since I couldn't see the L piece when I was taking it out I didn't really pay any attention to where it was when I put the screw back in. Does this matter? Set the idle back down to where I thought it should be, I've only got about 4-5 threads left showing on that screw toward the front of the truck. I thought it was to high until I started my dad's 96 and it's lower that his. Is that okay or should I turn the idle back up a little? And yes I can make tailgaters get off my ***** now :D I does seem to have more response but I was to excited about the smoke to pay much attention :-laf

The "L" shaped piece is a very thin washer with a tab. It is a portion of the tamper resistant cover and not a portion of the fuel adjust screw.

You can set the low idle RPM's just about where ever you like. Look for 750/800 or so.

How did you get the cover off the screw?

Pair of slip joint pliers or Vice grips, and give a good tug and roll at the same time. I've not had much trouble in the past on the trucks that still had them. Maybe I've never had a virgin pump?

Clendenin- Now that you have the fuel screw tampered with, you NEED a pyrometer, esp if you can scare tailgaters away. I can hit pretty high EGTs, and I have a fairly "lean" setup.

I do agree I definately need a pyro. I pulled a trailer today that I figure weighs about 6k lbs and the temp gauge was getting on up there so I'm sure egts were too. I really thank I've got the idle to low cuz when I rev it up in P the let off it seems like it kinda pauses for a split second and the motor will shake before it hits idle. Other than that it seems to be runnin fine. Also I've notice that the screw doesn't really want to tighten up and I've gone about another round bringing the total turns up to roughly 3 in from stock, just hope it not leaking fuel. Is there any way to tighten the jambnut some more?

I don't know what your asking. You simply tighten the nut... ... .....
