Is a 2001 fuel canister the same as a 2002 fuel canister? Looking for one to convert back from an intank pump to original setup... .

I knew that Dodge went to in-tank fuel pumps on 3rd generations in 05- 06 but did not realize they were doing it to 2nd generation 24 valves.

Look in the junk yards for a fuel tank module for 2002

I believe that a 01 one would fit 02, the tanks didn't change that I know of.

You mite consider putting an after market fuel pump set up on.

Just some thoughts:

Several of us have worked hard on getting the "bugs" out of the CTD fuel system. One of the major places is the fuel canister.

One approach is to gut the canister and install a "DrawStraw" which will allow your fuel system to deliver the fuel easier. Then the fuel level sender comes into question. Many failures over the years. We are working toward a replacement for that issue. The float deterroiates in many tanks and then is subject to clogging the rest of the system. We have one replacement float in hand but are moving toward a more universally available one. Test parts are on order but will not be in our hands for about 10 days to test them.

Basically I would not worry much about finding a replacement as long as you have the basic frame of the cannister that helps keep the DrawStraw in place, and provides a mount for the new fuel level rheostat (not DC manufacture).

You may not want to go this route of rebuilding the cannister. If not then a used one from a salvage yard or check EBay often. Just be sure to get the DIESEL version as the gasser versions are just about identicle in looks.

If you want to go the rebuild route then check here https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179541 for some interesting reading.

Bob & Bill, I have the intank pump now that has a different canister then the stock unit. I want to do a draw straw with an an original stock canister and get an aftermarket pump for this system. I have checked all the junk yards in my area-nothing.

Check with Oliee Poole "PowerbyPoole.com" he might be able to lend a hand.

The only reason I would be unsure about a gasser canister is where the gasser fuel fitting is there is a pressure regulator and I do not know what the actual frame moulding of the canister is there if the DrawStraw fitting would fit into that moulding or not. The wireing connections probably might be different as well.

I would NOT go to DC as they are $400 and we are going to gut it anyway.

A wrecked Dodge diesel truck would be an ideal "donor". Maybe someone on TDR might know where you can get a canister.

Bob, Found a donor. Same year and confirmed a diesel.

Now I need to order a pump and draw straw and get to work. :-laf

In the electric pump department the Walbro series seems to be doing well. I do a RASP, but several seem to be pretty happy with the Walbro. Several sizes to choose from. Read threads to see what might fit you best.

There are lots of threads on electric lp's.

Gary - K7GLD has done a fair bit of testing of various electric pump configurations. I would at least bounce an idea off him and get his take. He also has put together a bypass valve you install at the VP44 to keep the VP44 input pressure stable and at the pretty correct psi value.

Add a fuel filter / water seperator as you come out of the tank (I use a RACOR 690-T), use at least 3/8" lines through out so you get good volume, go to your pump, go on to your bypass valve (route the excess back to the tank or tank filler vent line) feed the Vp44 and you are in business. OR something like that whatever works for you.
