I dropped my truck off to have a new fuel sending unit put in... . since it was there I figured I would ask them to check out everything for problems that could have ocurred.

I told them I lost a few MPG and if they would check a few things that could have caused that... ...

Well, for all of you that didn't know, I was edumicated:D on how the fuel sending unit does have an effect on your mileage:--)

The kid that changed the unit supposedly ran some tests and cleared my codes. He told the service writer that my mileage problem is fixed now that I have a new sending unit in the

tank.

So what do you guys think? Should I find a new dealer to do the work when I have to take it to them:p

I wouldn't think that a sending unit would have anything to do with how much fuel the engine uses. It may change the way the fuel gage acts though.

That's just my uneduacated guess.

By the way I'm in UT also. Where did you buy your BHAF ?? I would like to get a BHAF, since it's time to change the air filter anyway. I went to Cummins Intermountain and they had no idea about what I was talking about.

Russ: Is the MPG loss you quote taken from the overhead computer? If so, the fuel sender will definetly affect this, as it monitors mileage driven + status of tank. I`m wondering if this is possibly the problem in my dad's 99, which we have seen a 4-5mpg loss over the last 20k miles...

hmm

BHAF - do a search and you will find the part numbers for different brands. That term was coined here and a Cummins dealer won't have any idea what you're talking about. I think the number was 2970 at Napa, remove the air box and tighten this on the hose. I suggest some type of bracket to hold the filter in place.

4-5 mpg loss, was this figured by hand? If not figure it by hand, if you still have a loss of mpg try cleaning the intake air temperature sensor.

I was joking

Hey guys I know that the sending unit has nothing to do with the fuel mileage... ... I was making light of the fact tha thte dealer actually thought I would buy that load of bull.

I thought some of the guys might get a laugh out of the whole thing. I did!

Anyway, was just letting you know that I heard a new story from a dealer that knows near nothing about our trucks.

I don't have the trip computer in my truck. Everything I do is hand calculated on fillups to the neck.

Jeff, I got my BHAF from parts plus in tooele. The guys at Napa can get it as well.
