Try a Cummins parts dealer, you need your engine id #,they priced one for me at $275. 00. That is for the new type Solenoid with all new brackets. I did not buy it because im not convinced that it is the solenoid. I installed an indicating lamp that tells me if im getting the proper circuit voltage to the relay,if I do not,I can by pass the F. S. S. Relay with a switch to energize the solenoid, that will tell me what is not functioning properly, the control circuit, the relay or the solenoid.

If there is an injection pump servicing place nearby you might try them as well. Dodge, Cummins and these injection pump places are all selling the exact same solenoid, it's amazing how much the prices vary!

Hi Caleb:
Try Associated Diesel On Moreland Ave. in Conley GA. I bought mine for $113. 00. Plus the mounting bracket comes with it. The new one is larger.

Good luck. Also love the mats.

Try poking a wd40 nozzle extender through the boot on the solenoid and spray the **** thing liberally. You might need to make a small slit in the boot with a razor.
I tried this on mine when it quit working and then took the thing and moved it to the on and off position about 100 times... . for some reason it worked almost 100% after that, until it became sticky about a month later. I then hosed it again and it worked fine after that again.
Maybe the thing gets corroded over time??????????????????????????????????

It's bolted toward the back of the injecter pump. When you look down at it, it looks like a tin can. There is a rod coming out of the bottom of it running to the inj. pump. When you crank the engine, the rod moves up and lets the engine run. When you shut it down the rod moves down, causing the pump to disengage and the engine to turn off.

Be aware that WD40 will become sticky if heated or left on a surface for prolonged periods(years). I have guns that were WD40'ed and they are so gummed up that they will not operate. They are well protected with the film that develops. Try marine spray grease.

Good point Bert, I never use WD-40 for the same reason... My Grandfather used it in his machine shop to protect freshly machined surfaces from flash rusting and it would leave a yello-brown gummy film on everything. The best product i have found is Liquid Wrench's lube oil.

I might be too late or off base but I thought I needed a fuel shut-off valve because my truck wouldn't always start. Had to screw around to get it running. Turned out to be the fuel shut-off solenoid on the firewall... up high, almost in the center. About $60. at the dealer. Works fine now. #ad

Don't slit the boot ---thke the time to get your self a thin tie wrap-remove the solenoid snip the wrap on the upper end of the boot the plunget and spring will jump out. If it won't shut down it means it is hanging up. Broken spring?? rust??emery cloth the bore. Can get from freightliner or ford ser # is not needed , same solenoid is used on the 8. 3 cummins. wire connector is also the same (pin position).
